"At the core of good leadership is the integrity of the individual. At Ridgewater College, all individuals are leaders at various points in time and involving various ventures of the College. All of us are obligated to act with integrity--our actions are a reflection of the College and the work we do here. As each of us provides leadership in our day-to-day, month-to-month and year-to-year endeavors, we are cognizant that good leadership means deciding where we want to go and making sure we’re on the right road to get there. This involves constant communication with each other, our students and our public. Sometimes that communication flows easily, sometimes it is contentious; sometimes there is wide-spread agreement, sometimes there are wide-ranging opinions; sometimes the communication brings out the best side of individuals, sometimes it brings out the less charming side. However, always we keep the dialog open. That is what allows us to continue to grow and improve as an educational institution comprised of committed faculty, staff and administrators—all of us leaders in our own way striving to do even better tomorrow what we already do well today." --Betty Strehlow --------------------------------------------------------- The Leading and Communicating section begins by explaining the leadership structure and how that structure aligns with the Minnesota State College and University System structure. Leadership and communication go hand-in-hand, and an important part of the philosophy of Ridgewater College is to function in a climate that facilitates communication. Mechanisms in place to promote communication processes are addressed in this section. Communication-related issues addressed in the "results" section include the many efforts that have been implemented to promote both internal and external communications, including the employee communications survey, the Staff Bulletin, open forums, the creation of a webmaster position, communication with area high schools, and the creation of the Ridgewater College magazine.
